Behind the Scenes of MOMAS Collection
Shining a Light, Digging Deeper: Seven Approaches to the Collection
Opened in 1982, the Museum of Modern Art, Saitama has built its collection through sustained acquisitions and now holds approximately 4,200 works. For this exhibition, members of the curatorial staff have each selected works from the collection based on their own perspectives.
Organized around seven themes, the presentation draws on the results of ongoing research and investigation. Ranging from long-admired masterpieces to lesser-known works, the exhibition reexamines the collection from a contemporary viewpoint, seeking to uncover new facets of these works. It also offers a behind-the-scenes look at the work of the museum, including two of its core activities: research on the collection and educational outreach.
